BADR DEAN
Morocco / Canada
// BIOGRAPHY
Badr Dean, founder and leader of the group Rebel Moon, is a Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of Moroccan origin. Nourished since childhood by the artistic eclecticism of Marrakech, Badr Dean’s musical universe blossoms as he travels, meets people and experiences. Adept at mixing genres, his style is a compromise between his roots and his western evolution. This has led him to mix pop music and North African and Arab-Andalusian trance with indie and electronic music. This style opens the doors to an enormously wide audience.
// “Msafer / Traveller” single
“Msafer / Traveller” is not about a particular destination or even about travel but about a state of mind. This song was inspired by the accumulation of experiences on the road, each of which has left a lasting mark on who I am, as an artist but also as a person. In these divisive times, I look back to the moments in which my own prejudices and preconceptions were tested and overcome by the experience and understanding of different cultures, religions and ways of life. Being born African, traveling was not an option. Once I was given the opportunity, I took the chance to see the world from a different perspective. Discovering the world outside of my traditional Moroccan roots gave me perspective, pride in preserving my own heritage, and shaped my worldview.
I want to help create a world of social justice and equal opportunity.
