// TANIAMA
Tania Boristhène, aka TaniaMa, grew up surrounded by a multitude of sounds. From soul to funk, jazz, blues and Afro-Cuban, her influences extend from her roots in maloya and sega. Born into a family of musicians, her upbringing and cross-fertilization have left a deep imprint on her, infusing her creations with a unique richness.
Self-taught, she made her debut at the age of 16 with Tribu Trio Tambours, and has collaborated with major figures on the Réunionese scene such as Davy Sicard and Ziskakan. These experiences have honed her technique and enriched her musical palette, which she continues to enrich through her experiences and the training courses this curious, open-minded artist has taken along the way.
A versatile artist acclaimed by her peers, since 2008 she has been teaching singing and dancing in local workshops as well as at a number of prestigious institutions in La Réunion, and is involved in a number of charitable initiatives.
Her music has taken her to the four corners of the globe, from Africa to Europe, each journey bringing its own set of influences and encounters. Her standout performances include her concert at “Lespas” and her performance at the Festival Musik Sakifo in 2016, both of which were enthusiastically received. In 2016, she was also awarded the prize for Best Female Voice of the Indian Ocean.
After a much-needed break, TaniaMa returns with renewed energy. “Larg mon kozé” is her first single where, accompanied by a guitarist, she brings together soul, chanson and maloya, her soft, sincere voice singing about life and love with a simplicity that is literally disconcerting in its beauty, musicality and humanity.
